Carpal tunnel syndrome - Oedema Factor

Definition

The RMA has defined oedema as "the presence of abnormally large amounts of fluid in the intercellular tissue spaces of the body and demonstrated by accumulation of excessive fluid in the subcutaneous tissues."

General information

Oedema may result from a variety of causes including cardiac, hepatic, or renal disease, burns or lymphoedema.  Oedema may be localised to an area or it may be systemic.
