A trauma to the relevant disc
Intervertebral disc prolapse - A trauma to the relevant disc Factor
RMA definition
The RMA defines a trauma to the relevant disc as an injury, including G force-induced injury, to the affected intervertebral disc that causes the development of symptoms and signs of pain, and tenderness, and either altered mobility or range of movement of that part of the spine. These symptoms and signs must last for a period of at least seven days (RH) / at least ten days (BOP) following their onset; save for where medical intervention for the trauma to the relevant disc has occurred and that medical intervention involves either:
- immobilisation of that part of the spine by splinting, or similar external agent;
- injection of corticosteroids or local anaesthetics into that part of the spine; or
- surgery to that part of the spine.

Preliminary questions [23058]
23060 the veteran has established the causal connection between the trauma to the relevant disc and VEA service for intervertebral disc prolapse.
23061 the veteran has established the causal connection between the trauma to the relevant disc and VEA service for the clinical onset of intervertebral disc prolapse.
23067 the veteran has established the causal connection between the trauma to the relevant disc and operational service for the clinical onset of intervertebral disc prolapse.
or
23068 the veteran has established the causal connection between the trauma to the relevant disc and eligible service for the clinical onset of intervertebral disc prolapse.
or
7334 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.
7335 the condition under consideration permanently worsened.
23062 the veteran has established the causal connection between the trauma to the relevant disc and VEA service for the clinical worsening of intervertebral disc prolapse.
23069 the veteran has established the causal connection between the trauma to the relevant disc and operational service for the clinical worsening of intervertebral disc prolapse.
or
23070 the veteran has established the causal connection between the trauma to the relevant disc and eligible service for the clinical worsening of intervertebral disc prolapse.
Clinical onset and operational service [23067]
38416 the veteran had a trauma to side and site of the body that caused the development of symptoms as defined in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for intervertebral disc prolapse at some time.
38417 the veteran had a trauma to side and site of the body that caused the development of symptoms as defined in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for intervertebral disc prolapse within the 24 hours before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
38425 as a causal result of operational service, the veteran had a trauma to side and site of the body that caused the development of symptoms as defined in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for intervertebral disc prolapse, within the 24 hours before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
38429 the trauma to side and site of the body, on operational service, within the 24 hours before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
Clinical onset and eligible service [23068]
38539 the veteran had a trauma to side and site of the body that caused the development of symptoms as defined in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for intervertebral disc prolapse at some time.
38540 the veteran had a trauma to side and site of the body that caused the development of symptoms as defined in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for intervertebral disc prolapse within the 24 hours before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
38426 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran had a trauma to side and site of the body that caused the development of symptoms as defined in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for intervertebral disc prolapse, within the 24 hours before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
38430 the trauma to side and site of the body, on eligible service, within the 24 hours before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
Clinical worsening and operational service [23069]
