Treatment with a drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure

Hypertension - Treatment with a drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure Factor

Although some drugs are known to increase blood pressure, whether or not an increase in blood pressure was caused by the taking of a particular drug is a matter which requires medical expertise. A temporal connection is not sufficient in the absence of medical advice that a causal relationship exists.

The drugs listed in the Hotword below were identified in the submission to the Repatriation Medical Authority (RMA) as drugs which can be associated with hypertension.

Medication which can cause hypertension

Treatment with drugs other than those listed in the Hotword may also cause an increase in blood pressure. Conversely, treatment with one of the listed drugs does not necessarily mean that it caused an increase in blood pressure in a particular case. In either case, medical evidence of a causal relationship will be required.

9141     the veteran has undergone treatment with a drug which caused an increase in blood pressure at some time.

26579 the veteran underwent treatment with a drug that caused an increase in the veteran's blood pressure for an illness or injury which is identifiable.

9142     the identified illness or injury is a condition for which treatment with the drug which caused an increase in the veteran's blood pressure can be ceased or substituted.

9143     the veteran has established the causal connection between the drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure and VEA service for hypertension.

26587 as a consequence of the identified illness or injury, the veteran was undergoing treatment with a drug that caused an increase in the veteran's blood pressure at the time of the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

9144     the veteran has established the causal connection between the drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure and VEA service for the clinical onset of hypertension.

26580  the veteran has established the causal connection between the drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure and operational service for the clinical onset of hypertension.

or

26581  the veteran has established the causal connection between the drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure and eligible service for the clinical onset of hypertension.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

26649 as a consequence of the identified illness or injury, the veteran was undergoing treatment with a drug that caused an increase in the veteran's blood pressure at the time of the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

9145     the veteran has established the causal connection between the drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure and VEA service for the clinical worsening of hypertension.

26582  the veteran has established the causal connection between the drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure and operational service for the clinical worsening of hypertension.

or

26583  the veteran has established the causal connection between the drug which has caused an increase in blood pressure and eligible service for the clinical worsening of hypertension.

Clinical onset and operational service [26580]

26588  the identified illness or injury, for which the treatment with the drug that has caused an increased in blood pressure was undergone, is causally related to operational service.

Clinical onset and eligible service [26581]

26589  the identified illness or injury, for which the treatment with the drug that has caused an increased in blood pressure was undergone, is causally related to eligible service.

Clinical worsening and operational service [26582]

26588  the identified illness or injury, for which the treatment with the drug that has caused an increased in blood pressure was undergone, is causally related to operational service.

26590 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury, for which the treatment with the drug that caused an increase in the veteran's blood pressure was undergone, is causally related.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [26583]

26589  the identified illness or injury, for which the treatment with the drug that has caused an increased in blood pressure was undergone, is causally related to eligible service.

26591 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury, for which the treatment with the drug that caused an increase in the veteran's blood pressure was undergone, is causally related.
