Head trauma with ruptured eardrum or concussion or fistula or temporal fracture

Sensorineural hearing loss - Head trauma with ruptured eardrum or concussion or fistula or temporal fracture Factor

To be relevant to sensorineural hearing loss, a head trauma must be of such a degree that it results in either a ruptured ear drum, concussion, a perilymph fistula or a fracture of the temporal bone.

The ruptured ear drum, perilymph fistula or fractured temporal bone must be on the same side as the sensorineural hearing loss you are investigating. If you have coded bilateral deafness and the ruptured ear drum, perilymph fistula or fractured temporal bone affects one ear only, then you should re-code the deafness as left -sided and right-sided.

If a veteran or member had a head trauma as defined above he or she would have needed significant medical attention at that time.
