Commencement of reforms

Income testing of aged care residents will commence from 1 March 1998 for residents entering aged care on or after that date. Other changes come into effect from 1 October 1997.

Rent assistance (residential care allowance) ceased to be payable to persons in approved residential aged care facilities and who are receiving Commonwealth Government subsidised care from 1 October 1997.
