Residents exempt from paying a bond

Certain residents cannot be asked to pay an accommodation bond by the facility they enter.  These people are:

  • residents who enter a facility before 1 October 1997 (unless they move to a new facility after 1 October 1997);
  • residents who enter high level care (other than an extra service place) from 6 November 1997 (this group pay an accommodation charge);
  • certain income support pensioners with low levels of assets (concessional residents); and
  • people who are in respite care.

Ex-prisoners of war are not exempt from paying accommodation bonds.
