DVA's involvement in the reforms
DVA's role in implementing the reforms is limited to:
- providing income figures for DVA income support pensioners and self-funded retirees(SFRs) who enter aged care on or after 1 March 1998. The SFRs must receive disability pension and have qualifying service. The income for other SFRs is assessed by Centrelink.
- cancelling rent assistance payments made to income support pensioners receiving care in subsidised aged care accommodation from 1 October 1997;
- confirming the income support pensioner status of residents for Department of Health & Family Services (DH&FS) pensioner supplement purposes; and
- ensuring that accommodation bonds are assessed appropriately for income and assets test purposes. Please note accommodation charges are not treated as income or an asset for pension purposes.
