ASBESTOS RELATED CONDITIONS.

1.  As you are aware there have been a number of articles published lately concerning Australian Defence Force members being exposed to asbestos during service.

2.  In view of the high profile that these claims are attracting, arrangements have been made to establish co-ordination procedures with interested areas within Central Office. This approach enables appropriate formal advice to the Minister, a consistent approach to all related issues, and timely responses to all requests for information. It has therefore been decided that all such claims should be referred to this Office for administration.

3.  In order to assist, could you ensure that as soon as a claim is received, that the claimant be advised that the claim is to be referred to this Office for administration.

4.  This Office will keep you informed of the progress of the investigations.
