Rules For Bodily Location

Rule 4:

  • If more than one specific part of the body can be coded against the nature of injury, use the appropriate multiple location code.

Rule 5:

  • Amputations are to be coded to the site of the amputation, not to the parts of the body that have been amputated.

Example

Loss of a finger should be coded as the hand (site), and not as a finger (part of the body).
