Exposure To Radiation

Claims of this nature do occasionally arise from exposure to radiation from British nuclear tests in Australia.

Part of the investigation process should include checking:

  • the employee's Commonwealth employment/service and other employment details;

  • exposure details, such as areas visited, dates, duties and whether protective clothing or dosimeters were worn;

  • the medical condition being claimed; and

  • medical evidence from treating doctor/s.

The general criteria for liability are:

  • probable exposure to radiation; and

  • disease/death probably caused by radiation exposure; or

  • disease/death probably arising from test circumstances.
