Definition of partly dependent

Partial dependency acknowledges a degree of economic support by the deceased employee, although that support may not be of great significance, at first glance.  However, any level of support may be important in terms of the overall income of a dependant.

This is the sort of thing that must be ascertained as part of the investigation process.  For some people, a $50.00 per fortnight partial economic contribution may not appear to be much but may be critical in terms of overall economic management and income.

Example 1

A deceased employee is a sole working parent.

      His child is wholly dependent.

Example 2

A deceased employee was responsible for 70% of the dependant child's income prior to death (the other 30% provided by the remaining parent).

Her child is mainly dependent.

Example 3

A dependant child is under 16 and living with the employee at the date of the employee's death.

The child is wholly dependent.

Example 4

A dependant child is receiving separate income greater than that provided by the deceased employee.

The child is partly dependent.
