Defining Third Party

'Third party' generally means that there are more than two parties involved in an incident for which damages are claimed or awarded.

Example

A damages claim is made for injuries which arise from a motor vehicle accident.  The claim for damages by the dependant will be made against the owner of the vehicle involved.

The third party in this instance is the other person's insurance company.
