The date that an impairment became stable is used in the Permanent Impairment Calculator to determine the appropriate statutory rates to be used in calculation of lump-sum compensation under ss 39 - 42 of the 1971 Act. The statutory rates of lump-sum compensation under the 1971 Act were increased by legislative amendment (or regulation) to compensate for inflation on a number of occasions during the life of the Act; these dates of increase, and the relevant maximum amount of compensation, are set out in a Table below.
