Original weekly amount of the pension
Original weekly amount of the pension
The “original amount” of a Reservist client's superannuation pension is the amount of pension initially approved by their fund administrator upon retirement from employment or at the time of the date of effect of any reclassification. The original amount should be distinguished from the current (CPI-adjusted) amount of superannuation pension (as reclassified), which is the amount of pension currently being paid to the retired member as a result of annual indexation effects.
Bear in mind the need to ensure that the class of pension considered is that effective at the date of the period under assessment.
Calculating a weekly amount from an annual rate
To determine a weekly amount of pension where only the annual rate is known, divide the annual amount by 365 and multiply by 7.
For schemes administered by Comsuper (DFRDB, MSBS, CSS and PSS), the original weekly amount should be obtained from Comsuper using Standard Letter crl01. For other schemes, the Fund Administrator should be requested to provide the information.
Refer to the separate list of Commonwealth Superannuation Schemes for contact details for other relevant schemes.
