Corporations licensed under Part VIII

Eight corporatised or privatised Commonwealth agencies (CSL Ltd, Telstra Corporation Limited, ADI Limited, Network Design & Construction Limited, Australian air Express Pty Ltd, Visionstream Pty Ltd, JRH Biosciences Pty Ltd and Pacific National (ACT) Limited) have chosen to continue coverage under Part VIII of the SRC Act (Part VIIIB until 1 April 2002), and no private enterprise competitors have yet been licensed under the SRC Act.  Other privatised Commonwealth agencies, such as the Commonwealth Bank and Qantas, have chosen to seek coverage under applicable State and Territory legislation.

CSL Ltd

Class A licences for a period of three years were granted to CSL Ltd and Filtron Pty Ltd (a subsidiary of CSL) with effect on 3 June 1994, “sale day” for the CSL group.  CSL Ltd is the privatised Commonwealth Serum Laboratories.  These licences have since been extended to 30 June 2000.

Claims management services for CSL and Filtron are carried out by the Comcare subsidiary QWL Corporation Pty Ltd.

Telstra Corporation Limited

A Class B licence was granted to Telstra Corporation Limited, ACN 051 775 556 from 1 July 1997 to 30 June 2000 by Notice No.5 of 1997, published in Gazette GN 25 of 25 June 1997.

The Licence, in Condition No.1, authorises GIO General Limited (“GIO”) to undertake “all of Telstra's functions under s108M(3) of the SRC Act”, ie. it is authorised to undertake claims management functions for Telstra.

ADI Limited

A Class B Licence was granted to ADI Limited ACN 008 642 751 from 1 January 1999 to 30 June 1999 by Notice No.1 of 1998, published in Gazette S 606 of 22 December 1998.  The licence was extended from 30 June 1999 and continued in effect after ADI was privatised on 29 November 1999.

Network Design & Construction Limited

A Class B Licence was granted to Network Design & Construction Limited ACN 086 174 781 from 15 April 1999 to the end of 30 June 2001 by Notice No.1 of 1999, published in Gazette S159 of 15 April 1999.

Australian air Express Pty Ltd

A Class B licence was granted to Australian air Express Pty Ltd, ACN 054 307 336 from the beginning of 1 July 1999 to the end of 30 June 2001 by Notice No 2 of 1999, published in Gazette S 292 of 1 July 1999.

Visionstream Pty Ltd

A Class B licence was granted to Visionstream Pty Ltd, ACN 062 604 193 from the beginning of 1 July 1999 to the end of 30 June 2001 by Notice No 3 of 1999, published in Gazette S 292 of 1 July 1999.
