Normal weekly earnings (NWE) is intended to be a fair representation of what an employee could reasonably have expected to earn but for their injury in Reserve employment.  For Reservists, NWE is based on both Reserve earnings and civilian earnings.

This question asks how the civilian NWE will be calculated, as there are two methods for such a calculation:

  1. actual civilian NWE;
  2. deemed civilian NWE.

The two methods are discussed below and in DCI 6.

A third choice is “None of the above”, indicating that there has been no loss in civilian earnings.

The level of incapacity payments to a client is based upon their NWE; 100% of NWE is paid during the first 45 weeks of incapacity and 75% of NWE is paid thereafter (unless the client undertakes actual hours of employment).
