Relevance of this amount
The fortnightly rate of pay (including Service Allowance) of a client is automatically converted to a weekly amount by the Incapacity Calculator and is used, along with the amount of Other Allowances, to calculate Normal Weekly Earnings (NWE). NWE is an important element in the calculation of the amount of weekly incapacity compensation paid under ss 19, 20, 21, 21A, 22 or Part X of the SRC Act.
After the release of Incapacity Calculator v 5.0 (on 1 July 2002), military salary will be collected as a weekly amount, not a fortnightly amount, in order to standardise all time amounts in the Calculator to a common unit - weeks. The Calculator now includes a time-sensitive rule to ensure that salary amounts in a assessment made before 1 July 2002 is still collected as a fortnightly amount in order to avoid affecting pre-existing investigations.
