DETERMINATION OF SERVICE IN MOZAMBIQUE AND RWANDA AS HAZARDOUS SERVICE FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE VEA
Purpose
The purpose of this instruction is to advise that service by Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel with the United Nations (UN) humanitarian operations in both Mozambique and Rwanda is to be regarded as "hazardous service".
Background
2.In separate decisions, Cabinet agreed that ADF personnel would be deployed as part of the UN operations in Mozambique and Rwanda.
3.Attached for information is a copy of both Instruments of Determination signed by the Minister for Defence Science and Personnel which determines hazardous service for the purposes of the Veterans' Entitlements Act.
Commencement Dates
4.The commencement dates for service are as follows:
Mozambique - on or after 12 July 1994; and
Rwanda - on or after 25 July 1994.
Further Action
5.Action will be taken to amend the VEA and eligibility guidelines in CCPS as soon as possible. Dates for cessation of service in these areas will be advised when they are known.
