Repatriation Medical Authority Reports

Proceedings of the joint RMA, DVA and ESO Forum held in Canberra on 15 - 16 April 2008

The main theme on this occasion was the future of the Authority and the Statement of Principles (SoP) as the basis of the Australian military compensation system.

The 2004 RMA/DVA/ESO forum was held in Canberra on 30 - 31 March 2004.

The objectives of the forum were to: restate RMA processes; inform representatives of the Veteran community; address issues of concern to the Veteran community; provide a forum for Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) and Department of Defence (DoD) representatives to address current issues; and to provide the opportunity to identify future challenges.

1998 Canberra Forum

The 1998 Canberra Forum was held on 9 - 11 November 1998.

The prime objective of the Forum was to develop a document setting out: the RMA’s understanding of its legislative powers and functions; the general principles the RMA follows in addressing causality; a description of how the RMA goes about the performance of its functions; and the manner in which persons may bring matters relevant to a Statements of Principle (SOP) to the attention of the RMA.

Consensus Conference: Stress and Challenge, Health and Disease

A consensus conference entitled Stress and Challenge, Health and Disease was convened in February 1998 by the RMA as part of the investigation into the possible causative role of psychosocial stress (particularly war or service related stressors) in the development of ischaemic heart disease (including coronary atherosclerosis), hypertension, cerebrovascular accident and psoriasis and in respect of post traumatic stress disorder and hypertension and post traumatic stress disorder and ischaemic heart disease.
