6.1 Eligibility

This chapter covers clients with liability accepted under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA) and the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988 (DRCA).

Rehabilitation for clients with liability accepted under the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986 is provided through the Veterans' Vocational Rehabilitation Scheme (VVRS). Information about this scheme can be found in Chapter 12 of this library.

It is important to note that there are a number of basic criteria that must be met before any rehabilitation supports and services can be considered for a client. This includes psychosocial rehabilitation activities.

As a first step, the person must have an accepted claim for compensation under the MRCA or the DRCA. Secondly, they must have an impairment as a result of an accepted service injury or disease. Once the Rehabilitation Coordinator is satisfied that these basic criteria have been met, and a rehabilitation assessment has been conducted, then specific activities can be considered for inclusion on the rehabilitation plan.

Further information about these criteria can be found in section 2.10 of this library.
