10.7.5 Provision of personal response systems

Monitored personal response systems (PRS) are installed devices, which are monitored by an emergency alarms service. Mobile Personal Emergency Response Systems (MPERS) are GPS-enabled emergency response pendants that work anywhere inside and outside the home environment where there is a mobile signal.

As per the RAP schedule, in order to provide a PRS or MPERS an approved DVA Health Provider must conduct an in-home falls risk assessment, cognitive assessment, in-home assessment of the placement of the device within the home, training in the use of the equipment and follow up on usage. The approved DVA Health Provider conducting the assessment should use DVA Form D9199 to confirm the need for the item and to specify the PRS/MPERS supplier to be used.
