5.7 Date from which Permanent Impairment Compensation is Payable
Note: Changes introduced by the Veterans’ Entitlements, Treatment and Support (Simplification and Harmonisation) Act 2025 have amended the provisions governing the date when permanent impairment (PI) compensation is payable under the MRCA.
These changes mean that in some situations, PI compensation may be payable from the first date of the calendar month that the medical practitioner estimates a condition became stable and the impairment became permanent.
These changes apply to PI claims made under the MRCA from 1 July 2026.
Note that the information in this section applies only to payments made under sections 68 or 71 of the MRCA. For date of effect provisions for interim permanent impairment payments, see Chapter 5.8.
