1.9.1 The Veterans' Entitlement Act 1986
The VEA is the legislation under which compensation, treatment, some rehabilitation and income support is provided to veterans and their eligible dependants for injury, disease or death related to service rendered before 1 July 2004. The VEA mostly covers veterans with service in wars, warlike and non-warlike operations (including peacekeeping operations) but peacetime service between 7 December 1972 and 8 April 1994 is also covered, and in some cases (depending on the member's date of enlistment), through to 30 June 2004. The VEA is administered through the DVA.
