5.5.1 Overview VEA provides the Secretary with a wide range of information gathering powers for the purposes of investigation, so that an examiner may ascertain whether a person was eligible for a particular rate of payment or benefit (such as treatment), under the Act. Secretary (or a Delegate of the Secretary) has the power to require a person to:

  • provide advice about their circumstances
  • provide documents
  • appear before an officer of the Department
  • provide information required on departmental forms.
