Vietnam Hostilities - Period and Operational Areas



Period of conflict

For both qualifying and operational service to be recognised in the Vietnam Conflict a person must have served during the period 31 July 1962 to 11 January 1973 (both dates included).     

However, qualifying and operational service is also recognised for Australian Defence Force personnel who rendered warlike service during the period 12 January 1973 to 29 April 1975 (both dates included).     

Operational area

The operational area for the Vietnam Conflict was the southern zone of Vietnam and the waters up to 185.2 kilometres from the shore of Vietnam.     

An operational area is an area specified in Column 1 for the period specified in Column 2 of Schedule 2 of the VEA to which a unit or individual have been allotted or deemed allotted for duty.
